…And a Miserable New Year……

I don’t really mean it, I just thought I’d carry on with the ‘Bah Humbug’ for Christmas…. and the rason I mention this now (as it is a little bit early) is that I’m off for a few days and won’t get the chance till after New Years…. which might be a little late!!!

So have fun you guys!!!

I’m sure you’ll be glad to know that after my crash yesterday I’m doing ok. My knee does hurt, but that’ to be expected after scrapping the skin off on the tarmac. Don’t worry, got my revenge, the bike took a little chunk out of the road. Grrr…!!! The Doc is sending me off to get it X-ray’d, but that’s more to do with the fact that he couldn’t see what was making it hurt in the first place (that is, hurt before I banged it on the road).

I looked up the New Year’s resolutions that I made last year;

1)get used to talking on the phone. I hate talking on the phone, and I don’t know why. Well, apart from the fact that I can’t see the other person, so I find it that much harder to read them and their body language, and I therefore don’t know what I can and can’t get away with saying. You also loose the ability to use your hands to wave around, which is something I do like to do when I get into talking.

2)not use the words “dump him (or her).” I’ve had to use them on a number of occasions in conversations this year, and I’ve (usually) felt uncomfortable in using them. Admittedly there are times when they have to be used, but that doesn’t change the fact that I don’t like to use them.

3)oh drat…..what was number three…….there was a third one. But I’ve forgotten it. I’ll remember it soon, and then I’ll list all of them round New Year’s, then you can all watch and see if I keep them!!!!

Here’s how I did;

1) – failed – I still hate talking on the phone,
2) – succeded – yay!! obviously not so many people have been dating idiots this year, well done everyone,
3) – failed – I think I decided this one was keeping my room tidy. Entropy is against me.

Any suggestions for this (next) year….??? Have a Happy New Year guys, see you in 2008!!!

I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike…….

I got to take my bike out for a spin today. I’ve been riding it for the last couple of years with a slightly buckled rear wheel but for Christmas a new wheel arrived from Father Christmas!!! Yay!!!

I put the new one on this afternoon, took it out for a spin and I’d crashed within a quarter of a mile. I’d like to point out at this point that it wasn’t my fault, I was having to pass an illegally parked lorry and with the oncoming car my front wheel stepped out from under me under braking on the wet road.

A broken front light and a hole in my jeans (and knee) later I was not best happy.

Slightly overdue……

Not wanting to annoy the librarian that I know visits here I might not have mentioned this, but she’s away so I can.

I took my books back to the library today. They were slightly overdue. When I say slightly overdue, I mean that you could just about stretch that point when I took them to the library last Saturday only to discover that they were already closed for Christmas. Therefore they were slightly more overdue when I got them back today.

Apart from the short-loan one (which, in my defence I didn’t realise was short-loan until a week before I discovered the library was closed) which was a lot overdue.

To rub salt into my wounds (well, those of my wallet) I then discovered that the two Paris travel guides I’d picked up for my sister were also overdue as she’d neither given them back to me or the library. When I asked her about this she said that she was going to give them back to me….. yesterday. YESTERDAY!!!!

THEY WERE ALREADY THREE WEEKS OVERDUE BY THEN!!!!!!

Anyway, that’s a £13.70 mistake I shall try not to make again.

Though £3 my sister WILL be paying me back for……

I’ve got pockets…….

Yes, I watched Dr Who, wasn’t it bloody great??? (anyone who doesn’t want to answer yes or something similar can sling their hook right now!!!) Now I could carry on extolling the virtues of pockets all day long. They are fantastic and I can highly recommend them to everyone.

I know that a great Christmas debate is whether to have an Angel or a Star on top of the Christmas Tree. We have come to a great compromise with our tree. Have both!!!!

I hope that you all a very fun and merry day!!!

nb – I’m number one if you google blonde cutty sark model, which is cool!!!

I’m going to be lonely this Christmas………

This is going to to be a rather unusual/sad Christmas for me as it’s the first where I’ll have spent the whole runup to Christmas at home instead of at Uni for many, many years.

When I say “/sad” I’m refering to the blog title (yet another song title I’m afraid). One of the hardest things about being back home is that I don’t get to see my friends as often as I’d like to. You also discover just how used you are used to seeing people on a regular basis.

Classmates you’ll see almost everyday, friends from societies you’ll get to see two/three times a week. Housemates/friends you’d see on a regular basis. And it is fairly surprising how much you miss them all when you don’t get to see them.

I’ve managed to get back a couple of times in the last few months, but in no way have I managed to catch up with half of the people that I intended to, but it’s not the same. When you don’t get to see people you miss out on a lot of stuff.

I was chatting to a friend on msn this evening abou this. They to have finished Uni and have moved away. Since doing so they’ve discovered that their old (school) friends have moved on and grown up whereas those friends still at Uni are often busy and (importantly) far away. Work collegues are work collegues, not really people you’d hang out with and “grown up” clubs and societies aren’t like Uni ones.

It becomes a very lonely time.

De partout… jusqu

To those of you (like me) who don’t speak French, this means ‘From anywhere… to anyone‘. The only reason that I know this is because it’s written on the envelope I got from Canada. I’m making the assumption that the bi-lingual policy of the Canadian Government means that they say the same.

I mention this as though the above letter managed to arrive from the snowly slopes of Canada in four days I suspect that the Christmas Cards that I’m still writing/not-yet-written might not make it to their destinations on time.

I’m sure you’ll all be glad to know that I have several really good reasons. These range from the fact that these cards are having a bit more than the “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year” in them, and you have to take a bit more time when writing those. And there’s the fact that I’m not one hudred percent sure where my address piece-of-paper has gone and so I’ve had to try looking up where I have to send them.

Sure, I suppose I could write them and then hand deliver them…… but it’s rather a round trip to deliver them all!!!

What I do need is to be more organised!!!

Baby it’s cold outside……..

If I was given the choice between hot weather or cold weather I will always choose cold weather. This is because you can wrap-up against cold weather and be warm, but there’s a limit to how much you can take off when it’s hot to be cool….

Dolgellau was lovely. Unlike last week the weather wasn’t rainy but was gloriously sunny. Sunny but cold. But that didn’t matter. I had two pairs of gloves, thick socks and a couple of jumpers. And a fantastic breakfast. We were staying in a B&B in the west-end of Dolgellau and it was lovely. But by far the breakfast was just amazing.

Sit down to fruit juice and cornflakes and after that a full english (beans, bacon, sausage, hash browns, egg, mushrooms, fried bread, tomatos) and then toast!!!! It was very, very nice…… Mmmmmmm….. 🙂

I certainly needed it for my drive home that night!! After watching several mildly amusing programmes on the BBC I headed home a little later than I had planned. And then with the weather it took me over FIVE HOURS to get home….. which is far longer than I thought.

What did surprised me was the amount of ice that had formed on the front of my car. Wing mirrors, radio arial… all covered in a thick sheet of ice. This had the slight problem of making the engine not warm up and subsequently the heating not work…… driving for five hours when there’s no heat. I discovered that if I pull my collar up and my hat down I leave only my nose and eyes exposed.

However, the getting home at 3.45am and the being in the office at 8.20am does mean I’m slightly sleepy now.

Nighty night!!!

If I had to choose……

After the big argument between my mum and my sister which results in the Christmas Tree not going up this year I decided not to rock the boat about going to the Office Do. Admitedly the bottle of wine and two-hundred and forty pages of my book might of helped a little bit…. well, quite a lot….

Now those of you who remembered from my last Christmas Ball (Monday evening) where it was a Pretty Blonde who came over and interupted my game of cards to say hello, this evening it was a Tipsy Accountant. He proceeded to tell me that I should choose what I wanted to do for a career and what I should want from such a career….. Out of the choice between the two conversations I think I definatly prefered being interupted by the Pretty Blonde. Not only because she was prettier but the conversation was a lot more interesting!!!

For those who might be interested I was wearing my red shirt/white bowtie combo this evening. No pictures from this eveing I’m afraid, but I looked a little bit like this.

I should also mention that I am being sent up to Wales definatly this week. Heading up to Swansea tomorrow and then Up North bright and early Monday morning. I should be back sometime Wed/Thur…… so take care of yourselves and I’ll see you all soon!!!

nb – I feel that just to carry on a msn conversation I was having earlier in the week that perhaps I should mention the prefering to see Pretty Blonde some more, but that is something that only works for one person….. so that’s for you!! ;o)

Christmas is almost here……

Today I was working in Hampton Court Palace which is a lovely place if you ever get to visit. We had a lovely job of recording the positions of floor tiles. Over three hundred of them…. boy that was fun!!!

However, in the hallway where we were working was a lovely Christmas tree…. all decorated in white flowers. A lot of white flowers. A lot of fresh, white flowers, the type that need changing every few days to keep looking nice.

If you’re interested there are about 300 Christmas roses, 120 Carnations and 80 Lillies. Approximatly. So who wants the job of changing them???

nb-while I was taking the photo the organiser of a recpetion they were hosting came through and asked if I was one of their photographers…. I was tempted to say yes and ask where she wanted me to go…
