I have always been impressed at how some people take full advantage of what’s around them. A grand great example is the wonderful world of sandcastles and snowmen. One is for the summer and the other for the winter, and with this being the season for snow we are in snowman season!!

Now does anyone remember an episode of The Simpsons where Marge manages to get Itchy and Scratchy toned down to be non-violent and non-offensive. And then the group that she’s formed sort of goes… overboard. To the point that when Michelangelo’s David comes on tour it is deemed offensive.

And real life…?? Well, this story about how a snow sculpture of Venus de Milo had to be either covered up or knocked down…. all because someone found it “too risque”. To be honest, the covered up version looks even worse. The green bikini and blue wrap makes it so much more noticable.

There is also a part of me that just wants to see the real one in that get-up as well…

Ahhh, welcome to March, the sadest thing about the end of Feburary is that the Winter Olympics is over, and I will have to admit getting to bed before 2am will be quite nice. I am sadly one of those people who are just adicted to watching sport. I really do love it. The curling, skiing, snow-boarding, figure skating, the bobs and most importantly the ice hockey.

Did anyone else see the hockey final on Sunday?? Wasn’t it edge-of-your-seat wonderful. The way it looked like Canada were going to have a fairly easy win and then the US slowly coming back, getting the equalising goal with only 24.4 seconds left in regulation. Such high drama. And then, in sudden-death overtime Sidney Crosby, the Canadian NHL superstar who has had a terribly quiet tournament scores the goal that gave Canada the gold medal that they held most dear.

Oh wonderful… truely it was!!

Thinking back to previous blog posts, is there a particular Saturday evening you would recommend us watching a certain BBC programme?

You know, at the begining of this week I was going to be letting people know that this coming Saturday I would be making my tv debut on BBC1 by making a total fool of myself on Total Wipeout. The Facebook page had been set up, people had been informed, however, the BBC in it’s wisdom have decided that even though they showed the first episode of the new series at the start of the Six Nations they aren’t going to show the new series until April.

So you’re just going to have to wait that little bit longer I’m afraid…

This year, this weekend I’m off to the Midlands for a squad session* as final preparation before heading off to India. You see, I’ve been asked to take part in the test event at the archery venue for this years Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

It’s not quite as good as going to the actual Commonwealth Games, I still require to gain some qualifing scores, but it’s a step in the right direction and means I get to make my international debut which is always nice.

* – well, what did you think it was going to be?? ;o)

I’ve been whistling a certain Monty Python tune for most of today, which is fine as Monty Python is great, however I’m afraid that I can’t tell you which song it is as this is a family site and it’s a rather rude song. Even the title is rather suggestive… however, what I shall do is share a song that I was humming earlier in this week… partly because it’s a great song and partly because they’d played it a couple of times on the radio

They all laughed at Christopher Columbus
When he said the world was round
They all laughed when Edison recorded sound
They all laughed at Wilbur and his brother
When they said that man could fly

They told Marconi
Wireless was a phony
It’s the same old cry
They laughed at me wanting you
Said I was reaching for the moon
But oh, you came through
Now they’ll have to change their tune

They all said we never could be happy
They laughed at us and how!
But ho, ho, ho!
Who’s got the last laugh now?

They all laughed at Rockefeller Center
Now they’re fighting to get in
They all laughed at Whitney and his cotton gin
They all laughed at Fulton and his steamboat
Hershey and his chocolate bar

Ford and his Lizzie
Kept the laughers busy
That’s how people are
They laughed at me wanting you
Said it would be, “Hello, Goodbye.”
And oh, you came through
Now they’re eating humble pie

They all said we’d never get together
Darling, let’s take a bow
For ho, ho, ho!
Who’s got the last laugh?
Hee, hee, hee!
Let’s at the past laugh
Ha, ha, ha!
Who’s got the last laugh now?

Now I challange you to re-read that and do it to the tune of the song!!

And yes Yip, it was from Avenue Q… hmmm, you know me too well (which is from a slightly less well known musical from the 80’s)

I spent this weekend driving a van up to Newcastle and back to help a friend move flats. There is something about having driven for six hours, after work, only to be told that the packing hasn’t even been started yet that just warms my soul.

Warms it and makes it cry, all at the same time.

Needless to say we eventually got everything packed and got down to the sunny side of London-town. For some reason I seem unable to get through London from the North without hitting the A1. Every damned time… and likewise on hitting the A5 coming off Euston Road to cut down to Marble Arch… missed again. Only lightly lost in Notting Hill but once I got to Holland Park Roundabout it was easy as pie.

Cherry pie with cream…

Something else that I have noticed is that for the third year running I’ve managed to miss my own Wibirthday, this one being my fifth. Oh I remember those early days, all fresh-faced and not knowing anything (bonus points for those who know which musical that line came from). When I was looking forward to my twenty-fifth birthday.

Wow, five years has flown past…

And your random wiki page for today is the small town of Berwyn, Nebraska, population of one hundred and thirty-four. And because I feel like it, here’s an aerial view from Multimap.

Being my first post of 2010 I shall wish you all a Happy New Year. Right, that’s the pleasentries over and done with…

I’ve recently been catching up on some books that I’ve not read in a while. The one I’ve just finished is The Horse and His Boy by C. S. Lewis. It is a most enjoyable book following the escape and subsequent journey of Talking Horse, Breehy-hinny-brinny-hoohy-hah (Bree for short) and found-in-basket boy Shasta as they try to warn Narnia of an upcoming invasion from Calorman. Along the way they meet up with another Talking Horse, Hwin, and escaping princess, Aravis.

I did find the last page very funny, especially these lines…
Aravis also had many quarrels (and, I’m afraid, even fights) with Cor, (Shasta gets a name change by the end of the story) but they always made it up again: so that years later, when they were grown up, they were so used to quarrelling and making it up again that they got married so as to go on doing it more conveniently.

Afterall, that is what marriage is about, isn’t it??

Your random wiki page for today is Rónán mac Colmáin who was a king of Lenister
